The articles have been piling up little by little. That's something we're grateful for in itself — but as the number grows, it gets harder to find what you want to read. So we tidied up the article categories a bit.
In this notice, rather than just saying "we tidied up" and leaving it there, we want to put into words what we organized and why. There are two things we'd like to share. One is that we added a new category called "Challenge." The other is that we placed an "About the categories" note at the top of the article list. We'll go through them in order.
"Essay" had things of a different nature mixed in
The starting point of this cleanup was a single realization.
Until now, every article on the theme of growing or moving forward went into "Essay." But as we kept writing, we noticed that something a little different in character had slipped into the Essay shelf.
Most of what sat on the Essay shelf was a calm read — settling in to look back on things already finished. Those have their place. But what caught our eye, looking at that shelf, was that a few pieces had slipped in where we were still moving — still "haven't managed it yet," still "can't be sure of the outcome," hands still on the work. A finished look-back, and a present-tense struggle. Each time we reread, having those two sit side by side on the same shelf started, bit by bit, to feel off.
So we added a category called "Challenge"
If the nature is different, the shelf is probably better off separate too. With that in mind, we made a new, present-tense category called "Challenge."
What we did is simple: we just moved the challenge logs that had been in Essay over to that new shelf. Whatever we're still in the middle of, hands on the work, goes on this shelf — think of it as no more than that kind of marker. Organizing it doesn't suddenly make anything dramatically better. It just means that articles of a similar nature now line up on the same shelf — that's all.
We put an "About the categories" note at the top of the article list
Once you split the shelves, it helps to know which shelf holds what, so things are easier to find.
So we gathered up what kind of articles each category collects and placed it at the top of the article list as an "About the categories" note. It's there permanently. We won't re-explain every category one by one here in this notice. When you want a landmark to search by, take a peek at the top of the article list. It's all laid out there.
To close
We think this makes what you want to read a little easier to find than before.
It's not a dramatic change, but the articles should keep growing from here, so each time, we'll quietly go on tidying up like this. Thank you, as always, for being here.
